MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry)

MITI, or the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, was a Japanese government agency responsible for promoting economic growth by supporting industries, trade policies, and technological development. It played a key role in Japan’s post-World War II economic recovery and rapid industrialization, helping domestic companies compete globally. MITI coordinated government and private sector efforts to foster innovation, regulate trade, and develop infrastructure, contributing to Japan’s reputation as a major industrial nation. In 2001, it was reorganized into the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), continuing its mission under a new structure.
