Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP)
The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) was formed in 1964 to challenge the exclusion of Black voters and representatives from the Democratic Party in Mississippi. During the Civil Rights era, many Black citizens faced discrimination and were barred from participating fully in politics. The MFDP aimed to establish a more equitable political process by advocating for the rights of Black voters and seeking representation within the Democratic Party. Their efforts highlighted racial injustice and contributed to broader civil rights changes, emphasizing the fight for voter equality and political inclusion in the South.
