Mississippi Folklife Project
The Mississippi Folklife Project was a research initiative that documented the diverse cultural traditions, stories, music, and customs of Mississippi’s residents. It aimed to preserve and share the everyday life and intangible heritage of the community, including Appalachian, African American, Native American, and rural traditions. Through interviews, recordings, and fieldwork, the project created a rich archive of Mississippi’s cultural diversity, helping future generations understand and celebrate their collective history and practices.
