Mississippi Democratic Freedom Party

The Mississippi Democratic Freedom Party was a political organization established in 1964 by Black activists and civil rights leaders to challenge racial discrimination within the Democratic Party in Mississippi. They aimed to provide Black voters and candidates with fair representation, which was often blocked by segregationist policies and practices. The party sought to promote racial equality and civil rights during the Civil Rights Movement. Although it was short-lived and faced significant opposition, it played an important role in advocating for Black political empowerment and highlighting racial injustices in Mississippi.
