Miranda family
The Miranda family is a group of small, icy celestial bodies located in the outer regions of the Solar System, primarily within the Kuiper Belt. Named after the French astronomer Raymond Miranda, these objects are remnants from the early solar system, composed mostly of frozen volatiles like water, methane, and ammonia. They are considered building blocks that contributed to the formation of larger planets and moons. Typically ranging from a few tens to hundreds of kilometers in diameter, the Miranda family helps scientists understand planetary formation, the evolution of icy bodies, and the dynamical history of our solar system’s outer regions.
