Mira (variable star)
Mira is a type of variable star known as a long-period variable, located in the constellation Cetus. It is a red giant star that undergoes regular brightness changes over approximately 11 months. These fluctuations occur because the star's outer layers expand and contract, affecting the amount of light it emits. Mira's brightness can vary significantly, from being barely visible to the naked eye to several times brighter. This pulsation provides valuable insight into the late stages of stellar evolution, as Mira is nearing the end of its life, shedding material into space and eventually becoming a white dwarf.
