Minurso (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara)

MINURSO, the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, is a peacekeeping operation established to oversee a ceasefire and facilitate a referendum for the people of Western Sahara to choose their future—independence or integration with Morocco. Since 1991, MINURSO's role has been to monitor the ceasefire, help organize the referendum, and support efforts for a peaceful resolution between the Sahrawi people and Morocco. The mission aims to promote stability and self-determination in a region with a long-standing territorial dispute.
