Minorities Treaty

The Minorities Treaty was an agreement established after World War I under the League of Nations, aimed at protecting the rights of ethnic, linguistic, or religious minorities within new or expanded countries. Signatory nations committed to respecting minority rights, ensuring fair treatment, and safeguarding cultural distinctiveness. Although it was intended to promote peace and stability, the treaty lacked enforcement mechanisms, and many countries did not fully implement its provisions. Nonetheless, it marked an early effort to recognize minority protections as an international concern, laying groundwork for later human rights frameworks.
