Minguo, meaning "Republic Era," refers to the period in Chinese history starting in 1912 when the Republic of China was established, replacing the Qing Dynasty. The term is often used in Taiwan to denote the era and cultural identity associated with the Republic of China's history since the fall of imperial rule. In everyday use, Minguo can also refer to the calendar system used in Taiwan, which begins counting years from 1912, the founding year of the Republic.
