Mineral deposition

Mineral deposition occurs when minerals dissolved in water crystallize and settle out of the solution onto surfaces. This process often happens in natural environments like caves, where mineral-rich water drips and leaves behind deposits such as stalactites and stalagmites. It can also occur in pipes or plumbing, leading to buildup that may cause blockages or corrosion. The deposited minerals form solid layers over time, gradually building up the structures or surfaces. This process is driven by changes in temperature, pressure, or the water’s chemistry, causing the minerals to become less soluble and precipitate out of the solution.
