Military history of Ireland

Ireland’s military history spans centuries, marked by occupation, rebellion, and independence efforts. Gaelic clans fought for control before Norman invasions in the 12th century. English rule expanded from the 16th century, leading to conflicts like the War of the Three Kingdoms and the Irish Rebellion of 1798. In the early 20th century, the fight for independence culminated in the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921). Ireland remained neutral during WWII, but later, some Irish citizens participated in international peacekeeping. Military history reflects Ireland’s struggle for sovereignty, cultural identity, and the complex relationship with Britain.
