Miliary Tuberculosis
Miliary tuberculosis is a form of TB that spreads throughout the body via the bloodstream, resembling seeds (milia) on an x-ray. Unlike the more common lung infection from TB, miliary TB can affect multiple organs, including the liver, spleen, and brain. Symptoms may include fever, weight loss, and fatigue, but it can be more challenging to diagnose. This serious condition requires prompt treatment with antibiotics, often for an extended period, to prevent severe complications. It typically occurs in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV or malnutrition.
