Milan Criteria
The Milan Criteria are guidelines used by doctors to decide which liver cancer patients are suitable for a liver transplant. They specify that the tumor should be limited to a single tumor no larger than 5 centimeters, or up to three tumors, each no larger than 3 centimeters, with no cancer spread beyond the liver or involvement of blood vessels. These criteria help ensure the best outcomes by selecting patients whose cancer is controlled enough to benefit from a transplant, balancing the potential success of the procedure with the scarcity of donor organs.
