mifepristone

Mifepristone is a medication used to terminate early pregnancies. It works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is essential for maintaining pregnancy. Without progesterone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, leading to the pregnancy ending. Usually, mifepristone is combined with another drug called misoprostol to induce contractions and help expel the pregnancy. It is considered safe when administered under medical supervision and is used within the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. Mifepristone provides an option for early pregnancy termination and is different from hormonal contraceptives or fertility treatments.
