MIDI protocol
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a standard that allows electronic musical devices, like keyboards and computers, to communicate and control each other. It transmits digital messages about notes played, their pitch, intensity, and timing. Think of it as a language for electronic instruments, enabling a keyboard to control a synthesizer or software to record and playback musical performances precisely. MIDI doesn’t send actual sound but instructions that tell devices what to do, making it a versatile tool for creating, recording, and performing music with multiple electronic instruments.
