Mictlán
Mictlán is the underworld in Aztec mythology, regarded as the final resting place for most souls after death. It’s envisioned as a challenging journey through nine levels, each with specific obstacles, guiding the deceased toward their ultimate repose. Only those who have led a virtuous life or are destined for a special afterlife are believed to reach Mictlán peacefully. Governed by the god Mictlantecuhtli, it symbolizes the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, emphasizing the Aztec view of mortality as a necessary transition within the broader cosmic order.
