Micronesia (Federated States of Micronesia)
The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is a country in the western Pacific Ocean composed of four states—Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae—each made up of numerous small islands. With a population of about 105,000, it is a sovereign nation that maintains a Compact of Free Association with the United States, which provides financial aid and defense in exchange for certain military and strategic rights. FSM has its own government, primarily based on a democratic constitution, and its economy relies on fishing, agriculture, and tourism, with deep cultural roots in its indigenous traditions and languages.
