Microcytic Anemia

Microcytic anemia is a condition where your red blood cells— which carry oxygen throughout your body— are smaller than normal. This often results from a deficiency in iron, which is essential for making hemoglobin, the protein that gives blood its color and helps oxygen transport. When iron levels are low, the body produces smaller red blood cells that can't carry enough oxygen, leading to symptoms like fatigue, weakness, and pale skin. Microcytic anemia can also be caused by other factors, such as certain inherited conditions or chronic diseases. Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying cause, such as increasing iron intake.
