Microangiopathic Hemolytic Anemia
Microangiopathic Hemolytic Anemia (MAHA) is a condition where small blood vessels become damaged or form clots, leading to destruction of red blood cells as they pass through these narrowed or damaged vessels. This results in anemia, a shortage of healthy red blood cells. MAHA can occur due to various causes, including certain diseases like thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura or hemolytic uremic syndrome. It often presents with symptoms like fatigue, weakness, and sometimes organ complications. Treatment targets the underlying cause, and early diagnosis is essential to prevent serious outcomes.
