Mettur Dam
Mettur Dam, located in Tamil Nadu, India, is a large dam built across the Kaveri River to control water flow for irrigation, hydroelectric power, and flood management. Completed in 1934, it spans about 1.6 kilometers and creates the Stanley Reservoir, one of the largest in South India. The dam helps supply water to farms in the region, supports about 560 MW of electricity generation, and provides water for downstream areas. Its strategic importance lies in moderating river flow, ensuring water availability, and supporting agriculture and power needs in Tamil Nadu.
