METs (Metabolic Equivalent of Task)
METs, or Metabolic Equivalents of Task, are a standardized way to measure the energy used during physical activities. One MET represents the amount of energy your body consumes at rest, such as sitting quietly. Activities are assigned MET values based on how much more energy they require compared to rest—for example, walking might be around 3 METs, meaning it uses three times the energy of resting. This system helps compare the intensity of different activities and estimate calories burned, providing a useful tool for tracking and planning exercise and understanding physical effort.
