Metric prefixes
Metric prefixes are used to indicate multiples or fractions of standard units like meters, grams, or liters. They make it easier to express very large or very small quantities without writing long strings of zeros. For example, "kilo" (k) means 1,000 times larger, so a kilogram is 1,000 grams. "Milli" (m) means one-thousandth, so a millimeter is one-thousandth of a meter. Other common prefixes include "centi" (hundredth), "mega" (million), and "micro" (one-millionth). These prefixes provide a standardized way to communicate measurements efficiently across different fields.
