Metopic Ridge
A metopic ridge is a bony bump that runs down the forehead, along the metopic suture where the two halves of the skull fused during early development. Normally, this suture closes naturally in infants within the first year, but if it remains slightly open or closes improperly, it can lead to a ridge or bump along the forehead. In most cases, a metopic ridge is benign and may become less noticeable over time. However, if it is associated with other skull or facial abnormalities, medical evaluation might be necessary to ensure proper skull development.
