Metate
A metate is a traditional stone tool used for grinding grains, seeds, and spices. Typically, it consists of a flat or slightly concave surface called a mano and a larger, stable stone base called a metate. The user rubs or presses the mano against the metate to crush and grind ingredients into powders or pastes. Commonly found in Mesoamerican cultures, the metate facilitates food preparation by efficiently breaking down tough materials, making it easier to cook and digest. Its design has remained largely unchanged over centuries, reflecting its effectiveness and cultural significance.
