Metaphase
Metaphase is a stage in cell division where the cell's chromosomes, which carry genetic information, align in the middle of the cell. This alignment ensures that, when the cell divides, each new cell will receive an identical set of chromosomes. During metaphase, spindle fibers, which are like tiny ropes, attach to each chromosome's central structure called the centromere, organizing them precisely in the center. This careful arrangement is crucial for accurate distribution of genetic material, helping maintain healthy cell function and genetic stability.
