Meta-ontology

Meta-ontology is the study of the foundations and nature of ontologies themselves—essentially, it examines questions about what being, existence, and categorization mean. It explores the types of entities that can be discussed, the structure of different ontologies, and how we determine what exists or how concepts relate. In simple terms, meta-ontology is about understanding the very framework we use to organize and understand knowledge and reality, helping clarify philosophical and practical assumptions underlying various specialized domains and systems of classification.
