Meskel Festival
The Meskel Festival is an important Ethiopian celebration marking the discovery of the True Cross where Jesus was crucified. Held annually in September, it involves a vibrant religious ceremony featuring the lighting of a large bonfire called the “Demera,” symbolizing the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Participants, dressed in traditional clothing, gather to pray, sing, and dance around the fire, celebrating faith and renewal. The festival also includes processions, feasts, and community gatherings, serving as both a spiritual observance and a cultural event that fosters unity and heritage among Ethiopians.
