Meskel is a major Ethiopian festival that celebrates the discovery of the True Cross by Queen Helena in the 4th century. Held annually on September 27 or 28, it involves lighting bonfires called "Demera" to symbolize the sparks that led to finding the cross. The festival is marked by colorful processions, religious services, music, dancing, and community gatherings. It is both a religious and cultural celebration, emphasizing faith, renewal, and Ethiopian heritage.
