Mesenteric Ischemia
Mesenteric ischemia is a condition where blood flow to the intestines is restricted, preventing them from receiving enough oxygen and nutrients. This can occur due to blockages in the arteries supplying the intestines, often from blood clots or hardened arteries, leading to tissue damage or death. Symptoms include sudden severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes diarrhea or bloody stools. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are critical to prevent serious complications such as intestinal perforation or infection. It is more common in older adults or those with cardiovascular risk factors.
