Merovingian Kings

The Merovingian Kings were a dynasty that ruled parts of what is now France and Germany from the 5th to the 8th centuries. They are often called the "first kings of France" because they established the early medieval Frankish kingdom. Known for their long hair and tribal origins, they initially held significant power, but over time their authority diminished as real power shifted to noble mayors and regional leaders. Their era laid the groundwork for later medieval monarchy, blending Roman traditions with Germanic tribal customs. The Merovingians ultimately were succeeded by the Carolingian dynasty.
