Meridia (sibutramine) was a medication used to aid weight loss by suppressing appetite and increasing feelings of fullness. It worked by altering the balance of certain brain chemicals that influence hunger and satiety. However, due to concerns about increased risks of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes, Meridia was withdrawn from the market in many countries.
