Merchandise Processing Fees (MPF)
Merchandise Processing Fees (MPF) are tariffs collected by U.S. Customs when importing goods into the United States. They help cover the cost of processing and inspecting shipments. The fee is generally calculated as a percentage of the value of the imported goods, with minimum and maximum limits set by law. MPF applies to most imported merchandise, but some items may be exempt or qualify for reduced rates. Importers or their agents are responsible for paying these fees at the time of entry, ensuring customs clearance and lawful entry into the U.S. market.
