MEP (Motor Evoked Potentials)
Motor Evoked Potentials (MEPs) are electrical signals recorded from muscles in response to stimulation of the brain or spinal cord, typically using a device called a transcranial magnetic stimulator or electrical stimulator. These signals reflect the integrity and functioning of the motor pathways—the nerve routes that carry signals from the brain to muscles. MEP testing helps doctors evaluate neurological health, diagnose conditions affecting movement, and monitor recovery after injury or surgery. It provides a non-invasive way to assess how well the brain and nervous system communicate with muscles.
