Mental State Examination

The Mental State Examination (MSE) is a structured way clinicians assess a person's current mental health. It involves observing and discussing aspects like appearance, behavior, mood, thoughts, memory, concentration, perception, and reasoning. By evaluating these areas, the clinician gains insight into the person's emotional state and cognitive functioning, helping to identify mental health conditions and inform appropriate treatment plans. The MSE is a key tool for understanding how someone is thinking, feeling, and acting at the time of assessment.
