Menisci
Menisci are two crescent-shaped cartilage pieces located in the knee joint between the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia). They act as shock absorbers, distributing weight evenly across the joint, enhancing stability, and allowing smooth movement. Each knee has two menisci (medial and lateral), which help protect the bones and cartilage from wear and tear. Injuries to the menisci are common, especially during sports, and may cause pain, swelling, and limited knee movement. Proper care and treatment are essential to maintaining knee health and function.
