Memory Systems

Memory systems refer to how our brain stores, retains, and retrieves information. Think of it as a multi-layered library: short-term memory is like a scratch pad for immediate tasks, holding details temporarily. Long-term memory is akin to a vast archive, where information is stored more permanently for future use. Different types of long-term memory include episodic (personal experiences), semantic (facts and knowledge), and procedural (skills and habits). These systems work together to help us learn, adapt, and function daily, utilizing complex processes influenced by attention, significance, and repetition.
