Membership degree
Membership degree is a concept from fuzzy logic that measures how much a specific element belongs to a particular set, ranging from 0 to 1. A value close to 1 indicates high belongingness, meaning the element strongly exhibits the set's characteristics. Conversely, a value near 0 suggests little to no affiliation. Unlike traditional sets where an element either belongs or not, fuzzy sets allow for partial membership, reflecting real-world uncertainties and gradations—such as describing how "tall" someone is, where height can partially belong to the category "tall."
