Melasma

Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by brown or grayish patches, typically appearing on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face. It results from an overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, often triggered by sun exposure, hormonal changes (like pregnancy or birth control), and genetics. While it does not cause physical harm or discomfort, it can affect one’s appearance and confidence. Melasma is more common in women and those with darker skin tones. Treatment options include sun protection, topical medications, and procedures to lighten the affected areas, but the condition may recur.
