Melanocytic Nevi

Melanocytic nevi, commonly known as moles, are benign (non-cancerous) growths on the skin formed by clusters of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. They typically appear as small, round or oval spots that can be brown, black, or sometimes flesh-colored. Moles develop naturally over time, often becoming more numerous during childhood and adolescence. While usually harmless, it’s important to monitor for any changes in size, color, shape, or texture, as these could indicate potential concerns such as melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Most moles do not pose health risks, but regular skin checks are recommended.
