The Meitei people, also known as Manipuri, are the predominant ethnic group of Manipur, a state in northeastern India. They have their own language, Meiteilon (or Manipuri), and a rich cultural heritage that includes classical dance, music, and traditional rituals. Historically, they established powerful kingdoms, notably the Kingdom of Kangla. The Meitei practice Hinduism predominantly, with influences from indigenous animist traditions. They are known for their communal festivals and craftsmanship.
