Meissner's corpuscles
Meissner's corpuscles are specialized nerve endings located just beneath the skin's surface, primarily in sensitive areas like fingertips, lips, and palms. They act as touch receptors, detecting light touch, texture, and vibrations. When the skin is gently touched or moves across a surface, these receptors quickly respond by sending signals to the brain, helping us recognize fine details and textures. They play a key role in tactile sensation and are especially important for tasks requiring delicate touch and discrimination.
