Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) occurs when the tiny oil-producing glands in your eyelids, called meibomian glands, do not function properly. These glands secrete oil that helps keep tears from evaporating too quickly. When they don’t produce enough oil or if the oil becomes thick and clogged, it can lead to dry, irritated eyes, discomfort, and blurred vision. MGD is a common cause of dry eye syndrome and can be influenced by factors like aging, environmental conditions, and certain health issues. Treatment often involves improving oil gland function and restoring tear stability.
