Medvedev Doctrine
The Medvedev Doctrine, articulated by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in 2008, is Russia's policy stance that countries, especially those in its near abroad, should not threaten Russia's security or interfere in its internal affairs. If they do, Russia asserts it has the right to respond with military force or other measures. Essentially, it emphasizes a strong national security approach and warns neighboring countries that interfering in Russia’s interests could provoke a significant response, framing outsiders' actions as potential threats to Russia's sovereignty.
