Medicines Control Council (South Africa)
The Medicines Control Council (MCC) of South Africa was the regulatory authority responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines and healthcare products in the country. It reviewed and approved drugs before they could be sold to the public, overseeing their manufacturing and distribution. The MCC aimed to protect public health by setting standards, monitoring products on the market, and ensuring compliance. In 2017, it was replaced by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), which now performs these responsibilities, continuing to safeguard the quality and safety of medicines in South Africa.
