medications used in ACLS
In ACLS, medications help stabilize the heart and restore normal rhythm during emergencies. Epinephrine increases blood flow by constricting blood vessels, supporting heart function. Vasopressin, an alternative to epinephrine, also constricts vessels to improve blood pressure. Amiodarone helps stop abnormal, life-threatening heart rhythms like ventricular fibrillation. Atropine may be used to treat slow heart rates by increasing heart rate. Lidocaine can also be used for certain arrhythmias. These medications are administered carefully in emergencies to optimize chances of survival and restore effective circulation.
