Medications (Donepezil, Rivastigmine, Memantine)
Donepezil, Rivastigmine, and Memantine are medications used to manage symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Donepezil and Rivastigmine work by increasing levels of a chemical called acetylcholine in the brain, which helps improve memory and thinking skills. They are classified as cholinesterase inhibitors. Memantine, on the other hand, regulates another brain chemical called glutamate, which can be harmful in excess. It helps with memory and daily functioning. While these medications do not cure Alzheimer's, they can help improve quality of life and slow down symptom progression for some individuals.
