Medical Council of India (MCI)
The Medical Council of India (MCI) was a statutory body responsible for regulating medical education and practice in India. It set standards and guidelines for medical colleges, ensured quality in medical training, and maintained a register of qualified medical practitioners. Established to protect patient safety and uphold medical ethics, MCI played a key role in accrediting institutions and licensing doctors until it was replaced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in 2020. Its objective was to ensure that healthcare providers meet consistent standards for safe and effective medical care across the country.
