Mediators of Inflammation
Mediators of inflammation are substances in the body that help coordinate the inflammatory response when your tissues are injured or infected. These include chemicals like cytokines, prostaglandins, and histamine, which signal immune cells to the affected area, cause blood vessels to widen to allow more immune cells in, and promote symptoms like redness, warmth, swelling, and pain. They play a crucial role in defending against harm and initiating healing, but if their regulation is off, they can contribute to chronic inflammation and related health issues.
