MDR-TB (Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis)

Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of tuberculosis (TB) caused by bacteria that no longer respond to the standard medications typically used to treat TB. This resistance develops mainly due to improper or incomplete treatment, allowing the bacteria to survive and become harder to kill. As a result, MDR-TB requires longer, more complex, and often more costly treatment with second-line drugs. It poses a significant public health challenge because it spreads similarly to regular TB but is more difficult to cure. Preventing MDR-TB involves proper diagnosis, complete treatment adherence, and early intervention.
