MDR-TB (Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis)
Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of tuberculosis caused by bacteria that have developed resistance to at least the two most effective anti-TB drugs, isoniazid and rifampicin. This resistance occurs when TB bacteria survive despite treatment, often due to incomplete or improper therapy. MDR-TB is more difficult to treat, requiring longer, more complex, and often more toxic medication regimens. It poses a significant public health challenge because it spreads similarly to regular TB but is harder to cure, emphasizing the importance of proper treatment adherence and early detection.
